The Best Ways to Spend 4th of July at Newport Beach

Anytime you spend a holiday away from home, you want to know the best things to do in the area and other travel tips and advice. Visiting Newport is no different. You will want to know all the fun activities there are and the optimum way to plan your days around the holiday.

What You Need to Know

  • Balboa Peninsula closes at 12pm.
  • Traffic can be chaotic and difficult to navigate.
  • Arrive early for parking.
  • Biking and walking are the only ways to get around once the peninsula closes.
  • Plan for long lines and heavier foot traffic.
  • Bring everything you need like sunglasses, water, sunscreen, and any other essentials.
  • Have a great time!

Where to Head for 4th of July Activities

Independence Day on the Back Bay is one of the coolest places to be for your holiday entertainment. You can enjoy live music and full bars. The kids can play large Jenga, bean bag toss, and plenty of other games. You can come early in the morning and stay through the fireworks!

4th of July Cruises and Fireworks Cruises provide a more relaxed option for your vacation. Let the captain be your guide and choose either a general cruise during the day or a night cruise to watch the fireworks.

Old Glory Boat Parade is a long-standing tradition in Newport. Boats decorate in their most patriotic themes while giving everyone a parade like no other!

Parade & Celebration at Mariners Park has been going on for more than 40 years in Newport Beach. It is a local favorite for a day of music, food, celebration, and of course, fireworks at night. Bring the whole family because there is something for everyone!

The Beach

You can also just kick back and relax at a number of beaches to enjoy the 4th. You will want to make sure that you know ahead of time which beaches are closed to the public or if there are certain sections you won’t have access to. Many beaches will allow you to set up your chairs and umbrellas as early as 8am in the morning. Be the first ones out there to enjoy the sun, surf, and sand with your family!

Where to Watch Fireworks

You can watch the fireworks at any one of the festivals and locations where you chose to take in the parades, or you can check out the fireworks in Laguna Beach or the Elton John Tribute & Fireworks in Irvine. Any place you watch, you’re sure to be amazed and left wanting more!

If you’re looking for something more lowkey and quiet, you can spend your time at one of the many Orange County State Parks, and if your furry family members aren’t too keen on fireworks, you can explore the best pet-friendly things to do in Newport Beach!
