Newport Beach Bonfires

Beaches Where You Can Enjoy a Bonfire Beach sunset.

Make your way to Corona del Mar State Beach when looking for a charming destination to explore, complete with rugged bluffs, intriguing rock jetties, and fire rings near the shoreline. It’s a beautiful place to gather with family and friends, enjoy roasting marshmallows and hot dogs, or just lingering and listening to the waves roll in. Balboa Peninsula Beach is another top destination for travelers looking to enjoy a bonfire in Newport Beach. This stretch of shoreline offers easy access to the pier and fire rings on the sand when you’re ready to illuminate your evening. You can pair your bonfire fun with biking on the many trails that run through this area when you’re looking for further options for outdoor recreation.

Bonfire Regulations to Keep in Mind

When you enjoy a bonfire in Newport Beach or anywhere else in Orange County, you’ll only be allowed to do so at designated fire pits like those at Corona del Mar State Beach and Balboa Peninsula Beach, among others. Alcohol isn’t permitted at beaches or bonfires, and you’ll need to forgo any wood pallets in public fire rings. Most fire rings in Newport Beach are available on a first-come, first-served basis between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm daily. There are two types of fire rings to pick from, one painted green and the other unpainted. Green fire rings are exclusively available for charcoal burning, while unpainted rings are for burning charcoal or clean wood.

What to Pack

You’ll want to pack the essentials to ensure your Newport Beach bonfire is enjoyable and safe. A few bundles of clean firewood or charcoal are essential for using a green fire ring. You’ll need matches or a lighter to help you get started, and you won’t want to forget the ingredients for s’mores, like graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows, and the roasting sticks to top it all off. Packing an extra blanket and beach chairs is a good idea if you plan to enjoy the bonfire well into the evening.
