The Lido Theatre originally opened in 1938 and the Art Deco landmark remains a favorite of Newport Beach locals and visitors alike.

From original poster cases and parlor stools to the neon clad Grand Marquis lighting up the evening sky, the Lido Theater's beauty can be found in every detail. Painters and photographers are regularly seen in front of the theater, drawing inspiration from the unique building. Take in the Art Deco architecture as you walk up to the small ticket booth for manually dispensed tickets, you will not find computer generated tickets here. The rich red velvet curtain still rises for every screening and pre-show advertisements have been banned from the historic, single screen theater, paying homage to an era when tuxedos and ball gowns were the appropriate attire when taking in a moving picture.

The theater screens commercial films as well as independent and foreign films. Staying true to Newport Beach's surf culture, Lido Theater takes pride in being the "Surf Film Capital of Southern California," showing both new and classic surf films as well as skateboarding and skim-boarding films. The Lido Theater works closely with the Newport Beach Film Festival (held annually in April), screening the festival's prime features. The Lido Theater and Newport Beach Film Festival regularly partner to bring special event screenings to the area, such as the treasured holiday tradition of screening "It's A Wonderful Life" every Christmas.
