The trek from Los Angeles to Newport Beach is only 44 miles (from downtown L.A.), but that doesn’t mean it won’t still take you over an hour to get there. While most residents know this, visitors flying into LAX and driving to Newport Beach can expect a heavy dose of traffic throughout the day, especially on major highways.
The 405 and 5 are the primary highways that you will drive on from Los Angeles to Newport Beach. All in all, the trip won’t be too bad and shouldn’t take more than an hour and a half unless you stop or there is major standstill traffic.
